Hi there Reader,
I used to think I needed a deep specialism to feel confident in my career
It was something that frustrated me for years.
I knew I was bloody great at my job but it felt impossible to explain why.
➝ I worked across loads of projects
➝ I was a strategist AND a doer
➝ I had breadth of skill, knowledge and experience
➝ I was trusted, respected, promoted
But when it came to exploring opportunities outside of my organisation, or talk about what I did at networking events, I had no idea how to pitch myself.
Maybe you are nodding along?
I empathise. So do the majority of my clients.
You see I mainly work with :
Consultants
HR & Product leaders
Civil service professionals
I have been in each of those roles so I get the vibe.
It's empowering and energising... until it isnt.
And then when you want to change your career.
It's a struggle, because you can’t confidently articulate EXACTLY what you do.
It’s the curse of the generalist.
When people (clients and my audience) come to me they:
➝ Can’t see the tangible value in their skills
➝ Are considering a demotion or pay cut to upskill.
➝ Believe they need to start from scratch if they change careers
If you are in the same boat - don’t do any of those.
I promise you don’t need to.
Instead focus on these three things:
1| Start talking about HOW you do what you do.
Not what you do…because lots of people can do that.
The magic is in the HOW.
2| Start talking about your generalist skills as “leadership” skills.
Because that’s what they are - and that is what is valuable and sought after in every organisation.
3| Start talking about the impact of your skills.
What does it mean for an organisation that you can negotiate, are diplomatic, versatile and adaptable?
How can you bring the results that you have delivered to your current and previous organisations to them?
Shifting to these three lenses will allow you to see your experience, capability and potential in a new light.
And you'll realise. Wait. I'm a badass.
If you want to take it a step further and learn how to communicate your USP powerfully to:
➝ Attract opportunities
(not just chase them)
➝ Build a personal brand
(becoming a category of one)
➝ Command authority in interviews
(feeling in control and full of self worth)
➝ Design a career you love
(with full clarity and confidence)
(ABCD...and that wasn't even on purpose!)
Then keep reading, because if this email resonated with you, I have an exciting new way to work with me.
You'll get crystal clarity on your career direction, grow authentic unstoppable confidence and follow a practical strategy to build momentum to achieve your goals.
With me by your side every step of the way.
(And it’ll be 50% cheaper than my purely 1:1 coaching 👀)
I’m gonna tell you about next week.
